William A. Stangel Jr.

William A. Stangel, Jr., age 66, of Albion, Pa., was called home early Friday morning, March 21, 2014 at UPMC-Hamot in Erie, Pa. Bill was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on January 21, 1948, the son of the late William A. and Elsie R. (Livingston), Sr. Bill grew up in the Albion/Edinboro area and graduated from General McLane High School and then went right into the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. After his service with the Navy, he went to work for Penn Union for a short time and then went to work for Copes Vulcan in Girard where he retired after thirty years of service as a machinist. Bill was a member of the Albion Assembly of God Church, and was a very active member of the Albion Sportsman’s Club where he served as past President and was the current Trap Chairman. He was also a member of the Erie County Trap League and the Lake and Valley Trap League. He was also a member of the VFW Post #470 in Edinboro. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. Besides his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Judith A. (Rhodes) on May of 2012, a nephew, Brian Erdely and two infant siblings; Kathleen and John Stangel. He is survived by a son, Joseph W. Stangel of Springboro, Pa. and two sisters: Barbara and her husband Mark Erdely of Edinboro, Pa., and Mary and her husband, Tim Yates of Springboro, Pa. He is also survived by a nephew, John Erdely and two great nieces and one great-great niece. Friends may call at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home at 11883 Main Street, East Springfield, Pa. on Monday, March 24, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend Life Celebration Services at the funeral home In Memory of Bill on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Fred Ayers, Jr. of the Walnut Creek Baptist Church, officiating with Military Honors presented by the U.S. Navy and the Erie/Crawford County Burial Detail. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Hope Cemetery in Wellsburg, Pa.
