William E. Dick
William E. Dick, age 98 of East Springfield, Pa., died Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Pleasant Ridge Manor where he had been recently residing.
William was born in Erie, Pa., on July 28, 1925, the son of the late Ralph W. and Lucy E. (Phillips) Dick. He served proudly in the Navy Merchant Marines during WW II where he served in the North Africa , Sicily and Italy Campaigns and then he was stationed at Marshall Islands towards the end of his deployment. He worked for many years with his wife, Irene, growing grapes and raising white-faced beef cattle. He had also worked as a foreman for 40 years at Brookpark (Carlisle’s) in Lake City. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, gunsmithing, and he liked to play the guitar and was an avid reader of Civil War history. He had also participated as a member of the VFW Post #4965.
Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Irene M. (Haser) in 2013 and a sister, Ellen J. Craig and a brother, David R. Dick, and a daughter-in-law, Diana Dick in 2014.
He is survived by three sons: Robert E. Dick, Sr., William J. Dick, and Ralph J. Dick and his wife, Pam. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Robert Dick, Jr. (Ashlee), William Dick, Jennifer (Jamie) Stagle, Billy Armstrong, and Ralph Dick, Jr. and four great-grandchildren: Makenna and Makenzie Dick, Danielle (David) Thompson, and Scott Miller and also two great-great-grandchildren: Trinity and Damien Thompson.
The family would like to thank the many nurses and staff members at Pleasant Ridge for the wonderful care that they gave their dad and grandpa.
Friends and family are invited to call at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, 11883 Main Street, East Springfield, Pa on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 1 to the time of the service at 3 p.m. officiated by Pastor Ed Huntley of the Federated Church. Burial will follow at the Springfield Cemetery, East Springfield, Pa.
