William Ivan (Ike) Carrier, Sr., died on September 24, 2015 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA of heart and vascular disease.

He was born in Summerville, PA on September 15, 1932, son of the late David Edwin Carrier and late Ruth Leota Sowers Carrier and was a resident of North Springfield, PA.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Alva Keth Carrier, also of North Springfield, seven children, Carla Dawn Carrier of Erie, Mark Allan Carrier of Bellingham, WA, Terry Leigh Carrier Blood of West Springfield, William Ivan Carrier, Jr. of Chehalis, WA, Dolores Michele Carrier of Erie, James Robert Carrier of Fairview, and Kimberly Lynn Carrier Lowe of Erie.  He was the grandfather of nine and had seven great and two great, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.  His brother, Dr. Charles Carrier survives in New Bethlehem, PA.

Ike was a graduate of Summerville High School and attended Pitt University.  He made careers as an adjuster at Erie Insurance, owned Carrier Insurance Agency in Albion, Pa and ended his work years as owner of the I-90 truck stop, Ike’s Country Store in Erie.

A man of firm conviction and many interests, he took all his responsibilities seriously and excelled at most everything he did.  He followed politics and current affairs and his opinions were never in doubt.

Ike loved travel and sports, particularly hunting and fishing and was an expert at both.  He never missed a season of either during his entire life.  He was fascinated by nature and daily enjoyed watching birds, fish and wildlife.

A true patriarch, he was a wonderful husband and father.  His family feels privileged to have had him as their leader and mentor.  His guidance and indomitable presence will be greatly missed.

Cremation was by the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home in East Springfield.  His family is honoring Ike’s wish that there be no service or memorial. In lieu of flowers they suggest that those wishing to remember Ike consider donation in his honor to The American Heart Association, The Nature Conservancy, Ducks Unlimited or Trout Unlimited.

Friends who have questions or wish to express their condolences may contact Ike’s oldest son, Mark at 360-345-6789 or mark@woodmerchant.com.
