Richard "Dick" A. Snow

February 25, 1937 — October 7, 2018

Richard “Dick” Snow, age 81, of Conneaut, OH, was called home by the Good Lord on Sunday October 7, 2018 at his home with his family by his bed.

He was born in Erie, Pa. on February 25, 1937, the son of the late William A. and Tillie M. (Moyer) Snow.

Dick helped out on the farm and worked hard learning to become a blacksmith and then entered the U.S. Marines.  He served his time and then came home to work on the Conrail Railroad as a Pipefitter and also continued shoeing horses at his blacksmith shop that he continued at his home.  He enjoyed eating breakfast with his brothers and he enjoyed driving members of the Amish community around when they needed him.  Back in 1999 when Dick decided to retire, he built a covered wagon and with his mules, “Tillie and Timex” traveled from April 1 to June 1 all the way from PA to Texarkana, Texas and back.  Time Life magazine featured an article about Dick’s adventure and the Timex Watch Company gave him a watch because of his mule, “Timex” that was part of the team.  (I guess Tillie was just along for the pulling.”

Besides his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Snow; two sons, Richard and David Snow; and a Grandson, Chad Beatman.

Dick is survived by his wife of many years, Thelma A. (Baxter) Snow and two daughters, Helen Bearce (Russell) of N. Kingsville, OH and Barb Beatman (Robert) of Conneaut, OH; and three sons, Bobby Snow (Ellen) of Interlock, FL, Ron Snow (Barb), and George Snow (Kathy) all of Conneaut, OH.  He is also survived by three sisters:  Doris Clisby of Platea, Pa., Betty Waters of N. Kingsville, OH, and Carol Buovonlonta of Conneaut, OH, and three brothers; Hank Snow (Mary) of East Springfield, Pa., Ralph Snow (Mary) of Conneautville, Pa., and Tom Stevens (Beth) of Conneaut, OH; and Really good friends with the Swartz (Amish) Family.  Dick was also blessed with 12 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, 11883 Main Street, East Springfield, PA on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 11 until the time of the Life Celebration Service at 2 p.m.  Dick will be laid to rest later at the Springfield Cemetery.
