Gloria Ann (Murkens) Kahala

Gloria A. Kahala, age 86 of Girard, Pa. went home to Heaven on Sunday morning, February 6, 2022 at UPMC Hamot, Erie, Pa.

She was born in Conneaut, OH on February 11, 1935, the daughter of the late William P. and Isabelle A. (Griffis) Murkens.  She graduated from high school and married the man of her life, Frank J. Kahala. and together they had two wonderful children; Mary and Frank.

Not only was Gloria a hard-working mother and devoted wife, but she also worked at the Marx Toys in Girard that became GRIM Enterprises and also at Hopkins Manufacturing in Lake City for several years.  Gloria was a very kind person to everyone she met.  She was very soft-spoken, you never heard a bad word come from her mouth, and she truly enjoyed reading the Bible.

Besides her husband, Frank and her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters; Carol Campbell and Margie Jones and two brothers; Billy and George Murkens and a half-brother; Donnie MaGaughey.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Kahala of Girard and her son, Frank (Terri) Kahala of West Springfield, Pa. and four grandchildren:  Sara Parrish, Nicole Neary, Josh and Stephanie Kahala and seven great-grandchildren:  David Platz, Laurel Parrish, Angel Ely, Eric Neary, Vincent Neary, Gracelynn Ely, and Joseph Ely and the newest addition to the family, one great-great granddaughter, Genesis Platz.

Friends may call at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, 11883 Main Street, East Springfield, Pa on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 10 -11 am.  Life Celebration Services will be officiated by Pastor Ed Huntley of the Federated Church.  Burial will be in Springfield Cemetery.
