Irene T. (Nachman) Bartko

Irene T. Bartko, age 89 of Erie, Pa, formerly of Battles Village and East Springfield, Pa. was called home by her Father with his guiding angels beside him on Monday night, December 17, 2018 at Saint Mary’s Home East where Irene had been residing for the past couple years.

Irene was born in East Springfield, Pa on October 2, 1929, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Vajda) Nachman.  She grew up and attended high school in Danville, Pa where she graduated from the Saint Cyril’s Girls Academy.  She met the love of her life, George J. Bartko, Sr. and they were married.  She worked for many years at the Marx Toys Company in Girard, Pa and she had also worked for many years in the Northwestern High School in Albion, Pa as a Cafeteria Cook.  She also worked as a prep cook at the Crowley’s Tavern in Platea, Pa.

Irene was a past member of the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxillary and she enjoyed reading, bingo, word puzzles, cooking and baking, and she loved to travel around the world especially to different spots in Europe.  Her greatest joys that gave her the biggest smiles were her children and grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, George on December 3, 1986; and three brothers; John and Nick Nachman and an infant brother.

Irene is survived by six children:  George (Mary) Bartko of Erie, Pa., Robert Bartko  of East Springfield, Pa., Barbara (Ray) Moore of Waterford, Pa.; Teresa (Rick) Lyon of Caledonia, OH;  Norma Bartko of Shippensburg, Pa; and Alan (Jody) Bartko of Cranesville, Pa; and two sisters:  Marge (Nachman) (Cap) Griffey of West Springfield, Pa; and Anna (Nachman) Hamady of Lafayette, IN.  She is also survived by six wonderful grandchildren:  George, Jr. and Anna Bartko, Jacob (MacKenzie) Bartko, Jesse Moore, Kyle (Andrea) Key, and Noah Holsopple.

A special "thank you" goes to the Gallagher's Center of Saint Mary's East for all the loving care and special attention that you provided for our mother during her stay there.  We truly appreciate it.
